Acebrophylline
Acebrophylline is an advanced, dual-action mucoregulatory and bronchodilating agent designed to tackle both airway obstruction and thick mucus accumulation. It functions as a molecular complex where the xanthine derivative (theophylline-7-acetate) acts as a smooth muscle relaxant by weakly inhibiting phosphodiesterase enzymes to increase cyclic AMP levels, causing steady bronchial dilation. Concurrently, the ambroxol component stimulates the production of alveolar surfactants and breaks down the gel-forming mucopolysaccharide fibers within respiratory secretions. This combined molecular pathway alters the rheological properties of thick mucus—significantly reducing its viscosity and stickiness—to accelerate natural mucociliary clearance. By thinning stubborn mucus and widening restricted airway walls, it lowers overall breathing resistance, eases coughing strain, and keeps the pulmonary passages systemically open and clean.
