Adapalene
Adapalene is a chemically stable, third-generation topical retinoid agent used to manage acne. It functions by binding selectively to specific nuclear Retinoic Acid Receptors (RAR-β and RAR-γ) in epidermal cells. This binding modulates the gene transcription factors responsible for cellular differentiation and keratinization. By normalizing folicular epithelial cell turnover, it prevents the structural microcomedone formations that clog pores. Uniquely, its lipophilic chemical architecture enables it to dissolve deeply into follicular infundibula, exerting a direct anti-inflammatory effect that downregulates the lipoxygenase pathway of arachidonic acid and protects skin barriers against inflammatory acne flares.
