Clindamycin Phosphate
Clindamycin phosphate is an orally inactive prodrug ester that is rapidly hydrolyzed by skin phosphatases into its active form, clindamycin, upon topical application. It functions as a targeted lincosamide antibiotic by binding reversibly to the 50S ribosomal subunit (specifically the 23S rRNA site) of susceptible microorganisms. This action blocks peptide bond formation and halts critical protein synthesis pathways. It aggressively targets Cutibacterium acnes within the sebaceous follicles, dropping fatty acid levels in surface lipids to systematically reduce acne lesion swelling and redness.
