Simvastatin
Simvastatin is a well-established, inactive lactone HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that is enzymatically opened into its active beta-hydroxy acid form post-absorption. It inhibits endogenous hepatic cholesterol synthesis, lowering total plasma cholesterol, LDL-C, and very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL). Beyond its primary lipid-lowering pathways, it enhances endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression, boosting overall blood vessel dilation and preserving systemic tissue perfusion.
