Terbinafine HCl
Terbinafine hydrochloride is a powerful allylamine antifungal agent characterized by its high lipophilic and keratophilic properties, which allow it to concentrate deeply in hair, skin, and nail matrices. It acts by selectively inhibiting the fungal enzyme squalene epoxidase during early sterol biosynthesis. This targeted action causes a dual effect: it starves the fungus of ergosterol, preventing cell wall maintenance, while triggering a rapid, toxic accumulation of intracellular squalene that induces rapid membrane disruption and lysis, making it aggressively fungicidal against dermatophytes.
